Itinerary:

Day 1 – Arrival & Welcome: Upon arrival at Ushuaia Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel to rest. Later, you may explore this unique city, known as the “End of the World,” and experience its extraordinary charm as the gateway to Antarctica.

Our complimentary Air2Sea transfer from Ushuaia Airport (USH) will be available with prior reservation. Hotel check-in is available from 3:00 pm.

Day 2 – Embarkation: Before noon, you will be transferred to the port to board the expedition vessel Seaventure, officially beginning your unforgettable journey. After embarkation and a mandatory safety briefing, you will settle into your cabin and enjoy your first spectacular views as the ship prepares to depart.

Days 3–4 – Crossing the Drake Passage: During the two-day crossing of the legendary Drake Passage, you will fully immerse yourself in preparation for the Antarctic adventure ahead.

The expedition team will conduct informative briefings on Zodiac operations and biosecurity procedures to ensure strict environmental standards.

Onboard lectures will introduce you to Antarctic ecology, wildlife, and the mysteries of the Southern Ocean.

You may relax at sea—reading polar stories in the ship’s library or enjoying the gym—while anticipation builds as you approach the Antarctic continent.

Days 5–8 – Antarctic Peninsula: We finally set foot on the Antarctic Peninsula. Over the next four days, we will embark on an immersive exploration that feels like stepping into a documentary film—venturing south of 60°S into a world of ice-covered islands and snow-blanketed landscapes.

Each landing and Zodiac cruise is full of surprises, with visits to selected sites depending on weather and sea conditions, such as:

  • Cierva Cove – A tranquil bay surrounded by towering glaciers, where leopard seals and curious minke whales are often spotted.

  • Petermann Island – A dreamlike landscape of blue ice and snow, home to Adélie and Gentoo penguin colonies.

  • Neko Harbour – Known for its dramatic glaciers, penguin rookeries, and sun-bathing Weddell and fur seals.

  • Brown Base – An Argentine summer research station in Paradise Bay, offering panoramic views and striking photographic contrasts.

  • Goudier Island (Port Lockroy) – A historic British base, museum, and the southernmost penguin post office in the world.

Days 9–10 – Drake Passage Return: As the final days at sea unfold, a gentle sense of nostalgia sets in while bidding farewell to Antarctica. You may catch a last glimpse of whales in the distance or playful orcas leaping through icy waters. The expedition team will continue sharing captivating lectures, or you may simply enjoy the stillness of this remote polar realm—an experience forever etched in memory.

Day 11 – Disembarkation: We disembark in Ushuaia, saying goodbye to the expedition team, fellow travelers, and the Seaventure. Complimentary Air2Sea transfers will be available to Ushuaia Airport (USH) or downtown areas in the morning (reservation required). Flights departing after 12:00 pm are strongly recommended.

About Travel Insurance for Polar Destinations

Traveling to remote regions is always an enriching and unforgettable experience. However, when planning an expedition to places such as Antarctica or the Arctic, having appropriate travel insurance is highly recommended, and medical insurance is mandatory.

A good policy should include coverage for pre-existing medical conditions, trip cancellation and interruption, emergency medical expenses, evacuation and repatriation, baggage loss, and even provider insolvency. In recent years, cancellation and interruption coverage has proven especially valuable when unforeseen situations arise.

A few important facts about travel insurance

You never think you’ll need it—until you do.

Flight delays, lost luggage, or a last-minute illness can quickly change the course of your dream trip.

No one enjoys shopping for insurance.

It’s not exciting, but if you’re planning an expedition, it should definitely be on your to-do list.

Now, re-read points one and two.

Although all of this may sound unfamiliar or overwhelming, purchasing travel insurance is not as complicated as it seems. Below is a basic list of what your policy should cover when traveling to polar or remote regions:

  • Emergency evacuation to the nearest hospital (accident, injury, or illness)

  • Medical expenses (minimum coverage of USD 50,000)

  • Repatriation of remains

  • Emergency evacuation coverage of at least USD 250,000 (some trips may require higher limits)

  • Death or serious illness

We also recommend purchasing trip cancellation and interruption insurance, which in many cases is included together with medical coverage. Check with your provider to ensure you are covered in case of:

  • Full or partial trip cancellation or interruption

  • Personal liability

  • Loss of baggage and personal belongings

  • Illness or death before or during the trip

At The Polar Travel Company, we do not recommend any specific insurance provider. However, the following companies are ones that our previous travelers (and we ourselves) have used. Many other options are also available.

Please note that eligibility may vary depending on your country of residence, so be sure to read all policy details carefully.
